Tommy M.

My first CrossFit workout was during my junior year in high school when Coach Travis Brackett introduced our football team to this new strength and conditioning program called CrossFit. I was taken through my first WOD and it kicked my butt and I have been hooked ever since. I love the anticipation of seeing the workout of the day (WOD) and finding holes in my fitness, and then attacking them.

After becoming a member of CrossFit North Marin, I fell in love with helping to coach the movements and encouraging all my fellow gym members during their workouts. In 2012, I got my CrossFit Level 1 Certificate and in 2013 I got my CrossFit Kids Certification. I began interning at CFNM in the summer of 2013 in between going to school at CSU Chico, where I got a degree in Fire Science, a Wildland Fire Certification and completed the EMT program at Butte College. I am currently at College of Marin taking more medical classes as I pursue my dream in becoming firefighter here in Marin County.

My athletic background is Football, Baseball, Track, Wrestling, and Golf

Ryan S.

Ryan is a San Francisco native. Her passion for fitness started at 3 years old, when her mom stuck her in ballet classes in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Even though ballet was not her calling, her mother quickly realized that her brute strength and size at 4 years old was not to be wasted. By 8 years old, Ryan was swimming and playing soccer on nationally ranked teams. Ballet was just a mere flash in the pan. Ryan competed for the University of Hawaii Wahine Water Polo team at the Division 1 level, where she discovered Yoga and CrossFit. Though her coaches would not let her miss class or practice for her yoga practice or CrossFit workouts, she stuck with it and brought her namaste/beast mode attitude into the pool.

After college Ryan used CrossFit as a way to forget her stresses, improve her athletic abilities, and meet new people. CrossFit is more than a work out, it is a way of life. Each class you are taught so many lessons: humility, inner strength, and the power of your community.

Ryan is TRX certified, CrossFit Level 1 certified, and a USA water polo coach and athlete. She is beyond ‘stoked’ to be a member of the CrossFit North Marin Team!

Jordan W.

My first WOD was Baseline at CFNM. It took me 6:28 and I felt nauseous for another 20 minutes after. I thought I was in shape. I left my ego at the door and returned day after day, slowly but surely gained strength, stamina and some fun new skills. “I can’t do that” turned into “I can’t wait to try that.”

Once CrossFit got into my daily schedule, it started sneaking its way into my daily life inside and outside the gym. The next thing I knew, I was skipping that extra beer and going to bed earlier just so I could perform better on the WOD the next day. My friends and coworkers have joined in because they see how much I love it and how great I feel. But less obviously, since beginning CrossFit, I have far fewer days of back pain (previously having been chronic since the age of 18), which I attribute to a greater core and back strength as well as learning and daily practice of better mechanics. I have also stopped using all my inhalers which I used to use daily for “exercise induced” asthma. Diet has also been a huge contributor to my overall health and well-being. My diet is now much less inflammatory, (no wheat or gluten, no legumes, far less sugar, dairy and alcohol). All off this change was sparked by getting into CrossFit and joining this amazing community.

Now  several years later, I’ve been given the incredible honor of coaching other CrossFit athletes helping them reach new goals inside and outside the gym. CrossFit has changed my life in so many positive ways, I can’t even count, and it seems to keep changing me for the better every day. My CrossFit family pumps me up every day whether it’s a PR day or seeing another athlete achieve a new goal. I love this sport and I can’t wait to share it with you!

When I am not in the gym, I am at Marin General Hospital delivering babies or at home with my husband Joe and my beautiful children Rowan  and Asher.

Joe W.

Joe was born and raised in Novato, attended Marin Catholic and was a competitive athlete playing football and baseball. Joe went on to college and attended The University of Oregon; returned home and got his Masters/Teaching Credential from Sonoma State University and began his journey as a lifelong educator.

As years went by, Joe’s earlier competitive drive dwindled. CrossFit brought it back. Joe had no idea how much he missed competition. He began recording his WOD times and lifts. Joe wanted to beat the person next to him…he wanted to beat himself. As time passed, Joe became more and more passionate about CrossFit, and in 2012 decided to get CrossFit Level 1 Certified so he could share his passion for CrossFit with others.

“Coaching has made me a better CrossFitter and continues to drive my passion for helping others reach their potential and improve their technique. I get so fired up to watch people get after it and push themselves past their comfort zone. The community aspect of CrossFit, along with the healthy lifestyle, has been amazing for me and my family.”

When Joe’s not CrossFitting he loves to pursue his other passions, which include: surfing, skateboarding, mountain biking, running, swimming, wakeboarding, and playing guitar. Most importantly, he loves hanging with my family: wife, Jordan (who also coaches CrossFit) his daughter, Rowan, and his son, Asher.

Danielle D.

Originally from Orange County, Danielle made the transition to NorCal in 2008 when she earned a scholarship and the opportunity to play softball at Sonoma State University from 2008-2013. Playing at the collegiate level taught her so much about hard work, discipline, integrity, teamwork, and provided Danielle with lifelong friendships. Danielle found CrossFit in 2013, a couple months after graduating college and has has never looked back. Danielle is humbled and honored to get to work out and be surrounded by such inspiring people everyday. CrossFit pushes her to her highest potential.

Danielle is very family oriented and her family is the most important thing in the world. Being 300+ miles away from family is hard, but CrossFit North Marin has allowed her to realize that her family is everywhere around this gym. They provide her with trust, love, and support every day and she is so thankful to have found such an amazing community.

Everyone has one person they look up to in their life and mine is Danielle’s is her Dad. He taught her that hard work never goes unnoticed and success never comes easy. CrossFit has allowed her to have confidence in herself, whether crushing strengths or working on her weakness.

“So like my dad inspires me, my goal is to inspire others (YOU), to be generous with my knowledge, and to leave a lasting impression on anyone that steps into this gym”.

Amy T.

Amy found CrossFit in 2011 as a distance runner. Having just completed the San Francisco marathon she was ready for a change. CrossFit was EXACTLY what she was looking for. The shorter, intense workouts were completely new and the results were incomparable. Amy believes in everything CrossFit teaches- discipline, persistence, goal setting, mental toughness and patience.

Amy has competed in various local CrossFit competitions and was part of CrossFit North Marin’s CrossFit Games regional team.

As a CrossFit trainer Amy loves seeing the same results in others that she saw in herself. Watching the changes happen, the confidence build and helping people better themselves is the most rewarding part of what she gets to do at CrossFit North Marin. Amy wants everyone that walks through our doors to work hard, be safe and have fun. She strives to inspire others to live healthier lives and believe in themselves.

Amy B.

Growing up Amy was always active in competitive sports. She was introduced to CrossFit in 2009 after the birth of her second daughter; and was looking for something that fun and was going to keep her engaged and accountable.

The community, the workouts, the desire to always improve, and the people is what keeps Amy coming back for more. CrossFit has changed her life forever. She is healthier overall, happier every day and finds passion in all that she does; building relationships with amazing people and help others to do the same. Amy feels incredibly lucky to train at and be a part of the CrossFit North Marin community.

Amy’s role at CFNM is multifaceted. She is the business engine driving the ship; part client services manager, part marketing director, event planner, tech support, accountant and hence all the behind the scenes responsibility around here. She is also CFNM’s biggest cheerleader. On occasion she may make a guest coaching appearance. She also has a full-time job as Executive Producer at a digital marketing agency. In addition to being CrossFit Level 1 Certified; she has a BA in Marketing and Communications and a Masters in Business Administration.

Amy’s most important role is mother to two amazing little girls (Abigail and Madeline) and wife to her partner in crime, Coach Travis Brackett.
